First thing one notices when arriving to Hampi is its awe-inspiring landscape with stunning boulder strewn hills, lush green valleys, network of rivers, lakes and canals. The best way to soak in this stunning view is to hike up to one of the tallest boulder hill in the region, the golden light of early morning Sun is pure magic. From here you get a unique perspective of the landscape and crumbling ruins set amongst them. As we descend we can spot some rare species of birds that live here. In fact this area is a birders paradise with over 300 species of birds. We continue on to the riverside to spot stunning works of relief sculpture hidden amongst the boulder rocks, getting to these will in itself be an adventure.

This option takes us to the Matunga Hill, which is one of the tallest hills in the region with panoramic views of the Tungabhadra river, surrounding valleys and the ruins of Vijayanagara. The hill has connection to the great Indian epic of Ramayana as well.
05:30 AM – Reach the Start point of Hampi Bazaar & Meet your tour lead.
05:45 AM – Begin our ascent while it is still dark outside from the western side. The hike should take 30 to 45 minutes.
06:30 AM – 07:00 AM – Spend time at the top of Matunga Hill and experience the sunrise in silence. We climb down the hill from the eastern side into the ruins of a 16th temple, the scene looks straight from Rudyard Kipling’s the Jungle Book.
07:00 AM – 8:00 AM – Head to the riverside and discover hidden sculptures amongst boulders. Engage in some adventurous boulder jumping as we make our way to the river.
08:30 AM – Enjoy breakfast at a local tea shop
This option takes us to the Anjanadri Hill, considered as the birth place of the Hindu deity Hanuman, who is a central character in the epic Ramayana. This is one of the tallest hills in the region with panoramic views of the Tungabhadra river, surrounding valleys and quaint villages. Anjanadri hill is located on the northern banks of Tungabhadra river and by road that would be close to 22 Kms from Hampi & 32 Kms from Hospete. So be mindful of this when you choose this option.
05:30 AM – Reach the Start point which is the base of Anjanadri hill and meet your tour leader.
05:45 AM – Begin our ascent while it is still dark outside from the southern side. The hike should take 45 minutes.
06:30 AM – 07:30 AM – Spend time at the top of Anjandri Hill and experience the sunrise in silence. While we are at the top we will also visit the small shrine built for Hanuman. We climb down the hill from the northern side as the valley opens up to lush farms and incredible landscapes. Here we will be able to spot many bird species at this time of the day.
07:30 AM – 8:30 AM – We continue our hike though the landscape crossing canals and agricultural fields to the charming village of Chikka Rampura, here we enjoy breakfast at the local tea shop.
